STRAY DOG POLICY:
How our rescue works... with dogs that are found as strays OR Turned in as strays.... We work much like any local shelter would however, rather then giving an owner 3 days prior to us placing a dog up for adoption we give them a full week. (7 days) We do check for micro-chip and will call owner/s if the chip has current contact info. We will also try calling the vet if the dog has a rabies tag. Call any ID tag info as well. We notify KGLT radio that we have found a dog as well and post on all the lost and found fb pages in our area. We do scan for and notify micro-chip company and if current info is provided we will contact owner or have micro-chip company contact owner and have them contact us..
We feel that our charges are reasonable as a 1st time dog at large ticket is 25.00 no grace period. Second ticket is $ 50.00 and it goes up from there. and if the dog is taken to the local Shelter they charge a bail out fee, ranging from 50.00 to 100.00. (depending on the rescue or shelter) and on day three the dog is available for adoption. In most cases you have to call each shelter/ rescue to find your dog as they don't place ads in the lost and found of the local papers, on line or put up flyers looking for the dogs owner.
If a dog comes in injured or ill. We will take them to the vet and if the owner claims them they will be responsible to re-pay any vet care bill that Tiny Tails has incurred, plus any cost for boarding as described below. Plus transport fee for the volunteer that took their dog to the vet.. (gas costs) If there is no ID, Rabies tag, License Tag on the dog we will vaccinate the dog before putting them into a foster home (this is done for the protection of our foster families animals) We do not charge for a wellness check-up (intake)
We give a 24 hr. grace period then we charge 24.00 a day boarding fee for a small dog and 44.00 each day for a large dog (any dog over 40 lbs) or part of day that the dog is in our care. At end of one week (7 days) we will get the found dog spayed or neutered and micro-chipped With a Tiny Tails Micro-chip and placed up for adoption. If owner contacts us after that time and the dog has not been placed in a adoptive home. Owner must prove ownership, and pay all outstanding boarding and medical fees, Micro-chip fee etc, for the care of dog prior to giving the dog back to the owner. If the dog was found in a condition that suggests that the animal was neglected or abused, We will notify Animal Control of the dogs condition as well and owner may be required to explain to law enforcement why the animals was found in the condition that we received the dog in.
